We are so proud of RIA interventional radiologist Todd Kooy. He was given the 2019 Physician of the Year award for his hard work and dedication to serving his community.
Dr. Kooy (pictured here with his wife Dr. Deb Preller) has been at RIA and Porter Hospital since 2012. He is an invaluable resource for the entire medical staff. His love of complex and challenging cases fits in beautifully with the needs of Porter and their patients.
By way of background — He was raised in Seattle and did all of his training at the University of Washington where he went on to join the academic faculty in interventional radiology. He was a beloved teacher and the director of the fellowship program. Unfortunately for his fellows, but good for RIA and Porter, he left academic practice 8 years ago and has found his home here in Denver.
Ben Kassanoff, a peer and partner of Dr. Kooy states “Todd inspires people around him and brings out the best in his friends and colleagues.” He also combines good karma and giving with a fun-loving personality. He is the kind of person everyone just wants to be around. He has a terrific sense of humor, is incredibly helpful, and always available.
When looking at the nominations for Physician of the Year, the unifying theme about Dr. Kooy seemed to be this wonderful combination of incredible knowledge, intelligence, and amazing technical skill that is combined with being a remarkable human being.
Great job, Dr. Kooy! We look forward to many more years of working with you at RIA!
