We love interviewing out patients. They are always so honest about their experience and it gives us an inside look at how they felt throughout. Here, we interview John J. about coming in for blood clot issues.
What brought you to RIA Endovascular?
I had a broken right ankle that had already required four surgeries. A visit to the ER showed that I had a clot behind my knee. My knee was swollen. They put me on blood thinners. Seven weeks later it felt swollen again and this time the clot was quite extensive and several deep veins were blocked. They put me on a heparin drip and I stayed overnight at the hospital. I then went home on a different blood thinner.
How did you discover RIA Endovascular?
While I was at the hospital Nicole Trouchon, NP came and talked to me about having a venogram with angioplasty. We hoped to stay on blood thinners, but she wanted to give me another option. She wanted me to follow up at the clinic with an ultrasound and consult.
How was your patient experience with the doctor and clinic staff?
The visits to the clinic was wonderful. Patty Petrosky, NP helped me understand what was going on with my veins and what my options were as far as treatment. Patty was amazing. She understood that I needed a careful explanation of what was going on with me. Instead of a surgical intervention, Patty and the team put me in compression hose and said I am to remain on the blood thinners without a procedure at this time.
What would you like to share with others?
I appreciate the very detailed explanation of what was going on. It was so nice to not be pressured into a procedure when a less invasive option was available. I felt like I was seeing a true specialist who could handle my complex case. It was nice to have a conversation with someone who truly understands my condition. I don’t always see that with healthcare providers.
